Wedding & Family Photography

1) Box Your Bits

One of the first things I’ll usually photograph when I arrive is your wedding details. These images help tell the full story of your day and are perfect memory of all the effort and hard work you have put in.

The easiest way to make this quick and stress-free is to box everything together in advance so it’s ready to go.

Things you might want to include:

  • Invitation suite
  • Rings (engagement ring and wedding bands if available)
  • Shoes
  • Jewellery
  • Perfume
  • Hair accessories or veil
  • Any meaningful items (lockets, heirlooms, etc.)

Having everything together in one place means I can create a beautiful flat lay quickly without needing to interrupt the flow of the morning.

2) Choose A Nice Bright Room

Natural light makes a huge difference in photography. If possible, choose a room with large windows and plenty of natural light for hair, makeup, and getting dressed. Not only does this create more flattering photos, but it also helps keep the atmosphere feeling light and relaxed.

If you’re getting ready at home or a venue, it’s worth having a quick look around beforehand and picking the brightest room available.

3) Keep it Tidy

Bridal prep rooms naturally fill up with bags, clothes, makeup, and hair tools very quickly.
If possible, try and keep clutter hidden in wardrobes or bathrooms.

Before putting your dress on, it can help to take two minutes to tidy the main space where you’ll be getting dressed.

Clearing a small area makes a big difference in keeping photos clean and distraction-free.
Don’t worry about making it perfect, just a quick tidy helps keep the focus where it should be: on you.

4) Allow a Buffer

Weddings often run slightly behind schedule during the morning, especially with hair and makeup.
Adding a small buffer of 10–15 minutes into your morning timeline can make a big difference.

It allows space for those emotional moments with family, final touch-ups, and a few relaxed portraits before you leave for the ceremony.

Those extra moments often end up being some of the most meaningful photos of the day.

5) Soak it all in and Enjoy

It sounds simple, but it’s probably the most important one. Your wedding morning is a unique moment, the calm before the excitement of the ceremony. Try to take it in, laugh with your friends, hug your family, and enjoy the atmosphere.

Some of the best photos from bridal prep come from genuine moments happening naturally, and when you’re relaxed and present, that really shows in the images.

5 Things to Remember for Bridal Prep

Whether it’s the excitement of a wedding day, those tiny newborn details that change far too quickly, or the beautifully chaotic joy of family life, my approach is always the same — relaxed, natural and focused on connection.
